The Karnali River Kayaking Expedition is an 8-day, 7-night journey into the remote wilderness of western Nepal. Considered one of Nepal’s great expedition rivers, the Karnali offers an exciting combination of challenging whitewater, dramatic landscapes, jungle-lined valleys, remote villages and peaceful riverside camps.
Designed for experienced whitewater kayakers, the expedition includes sections of Grade IV–V rapids, with difficulty varying according to river level, season and route. Each day brings a new stretch of river, from technical rapids and powerful waves to calmer sections where you can enjoy the surrounding wilderness.
Away from busy roads and developed tourist areas, the expedition provides a genuine river-adventure experience. Nights are spent camping beside the Karnali, with the sound of flowing water, star-filled skies and the natural landscape creating the atmosphere of a true Himalayan expedition.
With experienced river guides, safety support and carefully planned logistics, the Karnali River Kayaking Expedition combines whitewater adventure, wilderness exploration and multi-day river camping in one of Nepal’s most spectacular and remote river environments.
The Karnali River Kayaking Expedition is a demanding wilderness adventure designed for experienced whitewater kayakers. River conditions can vary significantly depending on the season, rainfall and water level, and sections of the river may become more challenging than expected.
For safety reasons, the expedition leader may modify the paddling route, daily schedule, campsite locations or river sections according to actual conditions. The stated itinerary should therefore be considered a general expedition plan rather than a fixed schedule.
Participants must follow the instructions of the river guides and safety team at all times. Appropriate kayaking skills, personal safety equipment and comprehensive adventure travel insurance covering whitewater kayaking and emergency evacuation are strongly recommended.
The Karnali is a remote river environment with limited access to roads and medical facilities. Participants should be physically prepared for consecutive days of paddling, camping and changing outdoor conditions.
Safety is the highest priority throughout the expedition, and completing the planned route will always be secondary to the safety of the participants and river team.
